The Support Services Division bridges service gaps for Tigua youth and adults. Gaps include lack of transportation, identifying student developmental shortfalls, and social and emotional deficiencies. Some of the services include transportation, parenting classes, counseling and advocacy, and library services.
The Tribal Empowerment Library facilitates internet access, reading programs, and intergenerational enrichment events throughout the year. The library has established the T’aiki Tiwa Reference Section. All new Tiwa language materials such as the T’aiki Tiwa Dictionary, storybooks, short stories, poems and documents directly related to the history of Ysleta del Sur Pueblo will be catalogued and located in this section. Stories previously written and illustrated by tribal students reflecting YDSP’s culture, feast days, and everyday events in the children’s lives will also be added to this section.
The T’aiki Tiwa Reference Section was featured in this year’s Texas Library Association: Powered Libraries West Texas Road Trip 6 Days, 5 Cities, 7 Libraries. The Powered Libraries campaign seeks to broaden the public awareness of library services and provide resources for librarians to promote libraries as vital institutions in their communities.
