Empowerment Program

In 2007 the Pueblo established the Empowerment Program to address the education and employment development needs of the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo tribal community.  This program brings together existing programs (Education and WIA).  The primary scope of the Empowerment Program is to build the tribal member capacity to reach educational goals and succeed in the up-and-coming workforce.

These programs use multi-methodology approaches and offer guidance; workshops and support that help develop or strengthen specific skill sets of tribal members.  The approaches include: tutoring, basic computer classes, social services referrals and support, technical training, financial aid, tutoring, college preparation, workplace literacy and various on-the-job training.

The programs assists tribal members to gain a perspective on how academic subjects and training can be used in making everyday academic, professional and personal decisions.  The overarching intent is that as individuals take control to improve their professional lives and seek out education, the outcome will result in a positive ripple effect for tribal families and the pueblo community.

The Empowerment Program is a consolidation of the Tigua Indian Training and Employment Program funded by the Department of Labor WIA and the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo Education Department funded by various sources such as the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
