Tribal Lead Program

Purpose:

Establish a baseline assessment of:

  1.  YDSP's children's health in regards to blood-lead levels
  2. Lead issues related to YDSP housing and public buildings specifically on the old reservation

Goals of Tribal Lead Program:

  • EMO aims to provide education and outreach to establish community involvement of Ysleta Del Sur Pueblo on ways to prevent lead poisoning and proper actions to be taken if lead poisoning occurs
  • EMO also will work closely with the Community Health Center (CHC) and Tribal Housing Department (THD)on the fundamental aspects of this grant project
  • To have a significant percentage (50-75%) of children blood tested for lead
  • Take a random sampling of houses on the old reservation and complete home lead testing including soil sampling
  • Complete lead testing on all public buildings on the reservation; Housing, CHC, Tuy Pathu Day Care, Elders building, and Administration Building including soil sampling
  • Create a GIS database with children tested and buildings tested, that will be easily accessible, to track results maintaining up to date analysis and confidentiality
