The Target Tigua AmeriCorps program provides the YDSP community with resources to help improve lives, build the community, and foster civic
Target Tigua AmeriCorps Members will serve at host-sites within the
Pueblo to include Economic Development, Emergency Management,
Environmental Department, The Cultural Center, Cultural Preservation, Financial Literacy, and VITA.
Members will serve part time which is at least 900 hours during the year.
Members are eligible for a living allowance up to $7,000 designed to help
meet the necessary living expenses incurred while participating in the
Target Tigua Program. Members are also eligible for a college scholarship
upon completing the service term.
Entrepreneur Training Assistant-The Entrepreneur Training Assistant offers small business development services, conducts small business and economic research,
develops curriculum, develops materials, makes presentations, recruits clients,
participates in entrepreneur training, and designs and disseminates
marketing materials about the program.
Financial Literacy Coordinator-The Financial Literacy Coordinator assists the Tribal Empowerment Department to coordinate activities in
providing Financial Education and a Mini Individual Savings Challenge
titled "Tigua Cents." The prime objectives are as follows: 1. To provide
financial education workshops utilizing Native American specific curriculum;
2. To guide participants open a savings account; 3. To launch a savings
challenge among workshop participants and cash match dollar for dollar
based on available funding.
Tigua VITA Coordinator-The Tigua VITA Coordinator assists the
Tribal Empowerment Department to coordinate all activities in providing free
tax preparation services to low income families of El Paso County for
purposes of joining the economic mainstream by promoting the effective
use of their earned income tax credit, child tax credit, and education credits
with long-term asset development objectives.
The Nation Builder assists the Economic Development Department to research museum operation and policies, develops Center related databases, assists with marketing and promotional materials, delivers museum presentations, assists toorganize Center related events including staff meetings, and prepares project
related paperwork and reports as assigned.
