The Community Garden Worker is responsible for planting, cultivating, maintaining and harvesting crops in the Ia-kitu (Corn Village) and Pa-kitu (Pumpkin Village) community gardens. Duties include but are not limited to preparing garden beds and soil for growing vegetables/crops; preparing and transplanting seedlings to garden beds; maintaining garden beds and garden pathways by watering, weeding, pruning, raking, and cleaning up debris; maintaining plant health by inspecting for signs of pests and diseases; applying organic/natural pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers to crops; harvesting and washing vegetables/crops; setting up and operating irrigation equipment; maintaining garden storage and recording of garden tools and equipment; coordinating garden activity logistics and directives for volunteers; collaborating with surrounding community farmers, Agrilife extension, coalitions or committees to gather information and plan accordingly; and other duties as required and assigned.
